Return

High-class courtesans (pink arrows) mingle in the theatre foyer outside the boxes. The central character is Colonel George Hanger (later Lord Coleraine). Colonel George Hanger carries a thick club under his left arm that he called his "Supple-Jack". Colonel George Hanger is intent upon closely examining two attractive courtesans immediately in front of him, so intent indeed, that he is unaware of a pickpocket relieving him of his watch from his fob! Note that the pickpocket wears a hat that helps hide his face. Two more courtesans are in the foreground behind the pretentious victim. To the right foreground is an older man with an optical piece, stepping on an elderly lady's gown. This elderly matron appears alarmed. To the far left, an older woman accepts a payment.
